Nigeria Begs Saudi Arabia Over Sale Of Free Dates Fruits Meant For IDPs

The federal government has apologised after about 200 tonnes of Saudi dates donated to the FG for free distribution to Nigerian Muslims in IDPs camps observing the Ramadan fasting were being sold at the open market in Abuja.

Dates Fruits are - by religion - the first things Muslims eat when they break the Ramadan fast each evening.

The News Agency Of Nigeria reports that the Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Khadijat Abba-Ibrahim, apologised to the Saudi Government for the "unfortunate turn of events".

Khadijat said the dates were distributed from a warehouse belonging to Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the presence of the Charge d’Affairs, Dr Yahya Mughram.

She added an investigation has been commenced to avoid such reoccurrence in future.
