The full story of the Nigerian civil war (or the Biafran war) dates back to 6 July 1967 – 15 January 1970, during the days of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu who served as the leader of the defunct Biafran state.

The agitation for the Igbo Nation 'Biafra' was taken up by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, few years after Ojukwu died. Mr. Kanu was arrested and detained in 2015. He got released in 2017 with strict conditions.
