Navy and Police in Serious Fight in Akim, Calabar, Three Feared Dead

...Navy Vs Police clash in Akim, Calabar leaves many dead.

Three officers have been feared dead in a bloody clash between police officers and Nigerian Navy in Calabar, Cross River state.

Eyewitnesses said that the attack began when Navy officers stormed Akim Police Station at IBB Road on Tuesday evening and set the whole place ablaze.

"As I speak, there is a real war going on between the Navy and police in Calabar, Cross River State. Residents have been indoors for hours since 5.00pm, with sounds of automatic guns booming all over.

"Bullets are flying all over, as there seem to be no one capable of calling them to order. My worry is about the safety of the lives of innocent children" a witness said.

Sources said the trouble started after a heated argument between a policeman and naval officers at a checkpoint around Navy barracks in Akim.

"The cause of this was when Naval officers as at 5pm earlier today went against a traffic light.

"Approached by the police on duty, they start exchanging words which was resolved.

"Shockingly as about 8:45pm the Naval officers stormed Akim police division, firing and molesting officers on duty, cars, and buildings destroyed," another witness said.
