Court Sentences Two Policemen to Death over Apo Six Killings


A Federal High Court in Abuja Presided over by Justice Ishaq Bello has sentenced two policemen, Emmanuel Baba and Ezekiel Acheneje to death after being found guilty of killing six traders on 7 June 2005.

The victims Augustina Arebun, Chinedu Meniru, Paulinus Ogbonna, Anthony Nwodike and  Ifeanyi Ozor. aged between 21 and 25 years were killed on their way home from a night party in Abuja.
Following a public call to the president as at then, Olusegun Obasanjo over the killings, an investigation panel was set up.

Five Policemen were later arrested and prosecuted.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty as charged.

Meanwhile, the three other policemen, Nicholas Zakariah Sadiq Salami and Danjuma Ibrahim have been discharged and acquitted.
