Nigerian Army arrests 26 Foreign Boko Haram Terrorists, 3,332 Civilians

The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of 26 foreigners linked with the Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram and revealed the arrest of 3,332 civilians in connection with the group.

This was revealed in a press briefing on Thursday, February 2, 2017, by Major General Leo Irabor, the theatre commander for Operation Lafiya Dole, the code for the war against Boko Haram, who gave the details of the raids at Sambisa and other operations related to routeing the terrorists from the North East.

The press briefing was held at the military’s command and control centre in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Major General Irabor, who gave details of the arrest said that a total of 3,332 civilians were arrested as BHT suspects while 5 BHT members surrendered to the troops during the operations conducted between 11 Jan – 1 Feb 17. 

He said that the 26 foreigners arrested, comprised of 17 Chadians and 9 Nigerians.

General Irabor also explained that in spite of the regrettable occurrence on the 17th of January, in which a Nigerian fighter jet misfired shots on an IDP camp, gallant troops have continued to gain traction by recording successes in operational engagements.
